India’s coal-heavy grid makes the indirect component of steel and aluminium declarations materially large.

Across all four sectors, indirect emissions follow the carbon intensity of the electricity consumed in production — and for Indian installations that is a coal-weighted national grid, not a blanket EU default. That makes the indirect component of steel and aluminium declarations materially larger than for a low-carbon grid. The XML captures the origin-grid figure for the electricity actually drawn, so the declared embedded emissions reflect where the goods were made.

Where an installation cannot evidence an actual electricity emission factor, the declaration falls back to the origin-country grid factor under Annex III to Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2025/2621 — a per-country value, never a single product default.
